http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPU4awtuTsk&NR=1Online Photo Sharing in Plain English

The Newbie's Guide to Flickr at http://www.webware.com/8301-1_109-9703620-2.html.

Make some observations about the benefits of Flickr for staff and for patrons.
This is a catch-up week! Please be sure you have posted responses to previous assignments! Wikis, Podcasting and Virtual Library are coming in the final 3 weeks.

I looked at all three but I think that the first one - Flicker in plain English was the best. He had some good ideas about good ways to preserve your photos and share them if you want to go public. Judy

I really enjoyed AND UNDERSTOOD the Online Photo Sharing in Plain English YouTube video. I may actually use it to share my Europe with you. (If I can find them on my computer at home.)
The "Steal this idea for using Flickr at your Library" was great. Every idea on there has great potential. I'm sure that once my mind stops flickring, I'll be able to add to the list of ideas.

I have been a Photobucket user forever but I like the features that Flickr offers better. Can't wait to switch and start sharing.

Looked at Youtube - searched for cats and found an adorable video of kittens. I can see where people like this site. For Flicker - Found the instructions to be clear and useful, if I were inclined to share photos. Also looked at the last site. I like the idea of sharing library photos. I'm sure parents like seeing their kids at our programs. Perhaps we could do more publicity with it though. Also - how about taking photos of the bulletin board, especially when it has things from students up? Just a thought.

I am familiar with Flikr and have loaded a couple of the libraries pictures on to it in the past. I decided to start my own account so I can share my photos with my friends without them having to sign-up for snapfish which is where I upload my pics to.

I think having more sets on the Libraries site makes it easier to look at the photos you want, so this was a great change. This is a great way to promote programs that we have done and will be doing in the future as well. I think it would be fun also to have little YouTube ads for Summer Reading or other programs we are having.

Also, and I haven't figured it out yet, there is a way to take a picture of a book display and link it to your library catalog and I think this is a neat feature! I did put a picture of Aaron reading "Big Pig's Hat" on my Flickr and was able to label the book, but I can't seem to get it to link to the catalog. It did link to the web and Amazon so that was neat! I only spent about 2 minutes on it, so I think it is something we could figure out. Here is a link to my page if you want to see what I mean by labeling.

You can also see a few pics from PLA and my recent trip to the zoo!

From Amy's Aunt Ellen 3/31/08:
Sign up for [Adobe's] Photoshop Express today -- free digital photo work and storage on the Web! They just opened their website yesterday evening. HUGE response. Very exciting! Get the URL of your choice while you can ...
Go to http://www.photoshop.com/express to find out what the site's about, and to sign up and start.
This Adobe product is more like Kodak Gallery in that it lets you edit your photos as well as store them and share them. Flickr doesn't have an edit feature.

I uploaded some family pictures on Flickr; it was amazingly easy. Now I'm going to send the link to my sister and see if she can find them. (She really dislikes using the computer).

I can see many possible applications for the library. I am somewhat concerned about privacy. I wonder if my concerns are age-related; it seems that the Facebook and MySpace people are really comfortable with having their information and pictures very public.

I'll probably create a flickr account for my photos so I can share stuff with the kids when they're both off at school, it seems pretty easy. I'd set up the account now, but my yahoo id is written down at home and I can't remember it, too bad I can't store brain power on flickr!
